Quick Update

Just wanted to give out a quick update on Google Exercises. Finished with them. After 7-39, it seems as if the exercises are the same with the exception of the last one. So, I just did 7-39 and 7-43.

Also, I did Arizona as my state.

Quick update

I just wanted to give a quick update. I got the center calc to work last week, but at the time I could not with a great deal of accuracy locate the points on the map. There were not enough streets to locate the points with a good deal of accuracy. It took awhile, and with the help of Dr. Cammack, I was able to get a street layer to overlay correctly on my map. So, here are the following intersections of the various centers I calculated last week.

Housing Center - 78th and Shirley Street, Omaha, NE
White Center - 84th and Center Street
African American Center - 45th And Seward Street, Omaha, NE
Hispanic Center - 45th and Grover

I bring my project into class and hopefully I can make it a well designed map.

Centers Galore

Alright, I think I finally figured out why I was having trouble earlier with the data set. When I joined the data, I joined it under the wrong column id. After matching them correctly, I believe I solved the problem that I was having.

So, what you see here is the housing center in the Urban Area of Omaha. Notice the Urban Area contains parts of Douglas and Sarpy County. The unit of measure was Census Blocks. Also, I wanted to test the mean center, and weighed the center to African Americans, Hispanics, and Whites. As you can see here, I am getting a much better picture and assessment of the population and housing centers of the UA of Omaha.

Also, feel free to critique the map quality. One of the things I would like to get out of this class is to create more professional, quality maps. I hope we spend time more time in class going over map quality, and what can be done to improve it.
